The whole world went black, and the moon poked its white face out from behind bars of black clouds, swirling and fleeing in its wake. All the cats of the world raised their heads and watched cautiously, feeling the infrared waves from the sky. A thin shaft of light pierced the darkened sky and made its way slowly to the southernmost part of Anarakhi, where no feline stood. Tigers and lions watched, transfixed to that single strand of white, unable to look away, their minds ablank.
The moon sucked up the glow as though it was never there, and it fled behind the face of the rolling skies. All went pitch gray, and all felines dropped to the floor.
The next day was the dry season.
