the forest was a haunting place, chillingly empty and quiet as it floated within the thick shrouds of morning fog. like the anguished cry's of long-dead souls, the traveling zephyrs wailed mournfully among the trees, a heartbreaking song that throbbed inside the brute's eardrums. through this, however, a profound silence blanketed the area like a thick veil, ruthlessly stifling the land with an acute sense of tranquility. moving with the liquid grace in which only those of his kind posses, dakota drifted through the towering, ancient limbs with a fluid slink. his tail coasted behind his bulk, twitching aimlessly; his noble, augustly structured head hung low, swaying with his gate and watching the mottled, rotten leaves pass beneath his fervent gaze. the moon-- a shimmering silver crescent suspended in the inky sky, plentifully bestrewn with glittering alabaster stars-- wavered gently on the reflective surface of a small puddle, though the image was shattered as a large white paw broached the surface, quickly dipping in then out in swift profession.
this was what life had become. this was it.
wandering about like an angst ridden teenager, mind clouded with thoughts of his past. the tiger's utter disgust with himself was palpable, and even through the thick swaths of mist, his chagrined gloom pervaded the atmosphere. a grimly sarcastic expression twisted his handsome features, and the impulsive urge to climb rendered his limbs stiff with want. a mighty surge of air rushed into his lungs as he gave a colossal heave, and within seconds all two hundred and fifty two kilograms of his body weight was suspended heavily atop a low lying branch of the nearest possible tree. after a minuscule pause in which to assess the power and thrust needed to ascend to the next branch, the tiger gave another robust launch, and alighted once more among the emerald clouds of soft leaves. within moments, the beast was draped across the highest possible limb in which could support his weight; as arrogant and idiotically brave as he was, he dared not push his luck. a mistake such as that could cost him his life.
at any rate, with his compulsion to climb now sated, he lazily relaxed under the dappled shading of the leaves in which whispered, in quite the surreal manner, into the brutes twitching ears. the sun was rising now, and the giant red globe kissed the horizon before climbing, as if on some ethereal staircase, into the sky. his pearled coat nearly appeared spotted in the much brighter luminescence of the sun as the tiger lolled about his perch, nestled fairly high up in the canopy. an immense yawn stretched his maw a considerable extent, and his ivory fangs, colored nearly identical to his coat, gleamed white in the light of the sun. a groaning roar escaped him as his yawn tapered of, and a flash of pink was the only indication of his tongue as it slid across his ebony lined chops.
